Project Overview
Lime seeks a Lead Visual Artist to deliver a collaborative art and design project for the Rapid Hub Lung Cancer Clinic at Wythenshawe Hospital. This high-profile commission will enhance the clinic’s environment, helping reduce stress and anxiety for patients and families during a difficult time.
Working with poet Zayneb Allak, Lime, and the Rapid Hub team, the artist will co-produce bespoke, site-specific artworks inspired by a specially commissioned poem. The works will embody themes of compassion, hope, and dignity, promoting calm and reassurance for all who visit.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with the poet, patients, staff, and carers through creative workshops.
Design and produce original artworks for permanent display in entrances, corridors, waiting areas, and consultation rooms.
Develop a cohesive visual and colour scheme that supports wellbeing.
Create visual responses to the poem, possibly using text and mixed media such as printmaking, collage, painting, or textiles.
Advise on complementary design elements like window films, signage, and wayfinding.
Attend site visits, planning meetings, and manage time, budgets, and production schedules effectively.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience in participatory or site-specific arts projects, ideally in healthcare.
Sensitivity to patient wellbeing and emotional needs.
Strong collaboration and communication skills with diverse audiences.
Established professional arts practice with high aesthetic and technical standards.
Deliverables
Bespoke wall-based artworks integrated with the commissioned poem.
Recommendations for colour, signage, and design improvements.
Documentation of workshops / outcomes.
Context
The Rapid Hub supports patients aged 55–95 through lung cancer diagnosis and testing. This project aims to create a welcoming, uplifting space that reflects the compassion and quality care of the clinical team.
